March 2024

Highlights from the March 2024 Issue:

This issue centres on Step Three and the theme of decision—reaching a turning point where trust, acceptance, and reliance on a Higher Power begin to shape recovery. The tone reflects a shift from belief to action, emphasizing willingness and commitment as essential to spiritual progress.

“How the Chips Came to Ottawa” shares a powerful piece of A.A. history through the story of Ghislaine L., tracing how the chip system was introduced from Montreal into Ottawa meetings. The article highlights the importance of chips as symbols of hope, accountability, and milestone recognition, and how simple tools can have a lasting impact on recovery.

“My Pet Story” by Dave G. offers a deeply personal reflection on relapse, responsibility, and redemption. Through the relationship with his dog Maggie, the author explores the consequences of returning to drinking and the emotional turning point that led him back to recovery. The story emphasizes accountability, service, and the rebuilding of trust—both with others and oneself.

From the archives, the history of the Vanier Early Birds Group provides a detailed look at how a meeting can evolve organically to meet members’ needs. The piece traces its beginnings in the early 1990s, its growth into one of the city’s only daily early-morning meetings, and the strong service culture that continues to support newcomers and long-time members alike.

Service and General Service updates highlight upcoming events, including the Eastern Canada Regional Forum, delegate orientation, and Spring Assembly, reinforcing the importance of participation in A.A.’s broader service structure and group conscience.

The issue also includes community announcements, anniversaries, and upcoming events, encouraging continued engagement in meetings, service, and fellowship activities.
