Our Primary Purpose

June 2021

Highlights from the June 2021 Issue:

This issue centres on the concept of “languishing” during the pandemic and how recovery offers a path out of emotional numbness. The feature story follows Rhonda’s journey from detox to sustained sobriety, illustrating how online meetings provided continuous support and even life-saving connection across time zones.

The editorial, “Languishing, it’s a choice” by Jeff F, explores the distinction between powerlessness over addiction and the choice to remain stuck without seeking help. It calls for action, connection, and engagement with the program as the remedy to isolation and emotional stagnation.

A personal reflection, “A Member Shares: What meditation does for me” by David F, highlights mindfulness as a key component of recovery, emphasizing awareness, emotional regulation, and personal growth beyond substance use. The issue also promotes the Hand of A.A. in Action virtual service event, featuring speakers like Kimberley M, and reinforces the central role of service in carrying the message. Additional updates include announcements about the Unity & Service Conference and Grapevine’s free access period celebrating Founders Day.
