Our Primary Purpose

July 2024

Highlights from the July 2024 Issue:

This issue focuses on Steps Six and Seven, exploring the ongoing process of becoming ready to let go of character defects and humbly asking for their removal. The theme emphasizes that this work is gradual, requiring awareness, willingness, and daily practice rather than immediate change.

“Steps 6 & 7” by D.L. offers a practical and honest reflection on working these steps, highlighting the challenge of letting go of familiar behaviours and the importance of patience, humility, and consistent spiritual practice.

“One Day at a Time (Scott’s Journey with Cancer)” by Scott F. shares a powerful personal story of sobriety in the face of serious illness. The piece reflects on acceptance, role reversal, and learning to receive help, emphasizing gratitude, service, and living one day at a time through changing circumstances.

From the archives, the history of the Remember When Group traces its origins in 1977 and its long-standing presence in Kanata, highlighting its informal structure, strong sense of fellowship, and ongoing commitment to service both within the group and in treatment settings.

Service remains a strong theme throughout the issue, with opportunities highlighted for the Telephone Answering Service, Ottawa Withdrawal Management Centre, and Intergroup roles, including a newly filled 12-Step Coordinator position.

Additional updates include an Area 83 report encouraging members to participate in a fellowship-wide inventory, reinforcing the importance of reflection and growth at both the personal and service levels.

Upcoming events include regional conferences and gatherings, encouraging continued connection, participation, and service within the A.A. community.
