Our Primary Purpose

January 2026

Highlights from the January 2026 Issue:

This issue reflects on unity, service, and the spirit of connection that carries members through the holiday season and into a new year. The feature series on the Lord’s Prayer continues, exploring its roots in early A.A. and how long-standing meeting customs developed through shared experience and group practice.

“Reflections on Alkathon” shares perspectives from both A.A. and Al-Anon members, highlighting the event as a place of welcome, fellowship, and support during a time that can be difficult for many. The articles emphasize service, community effort, and the importance of creating a safe, inclusive space over the holidays.

“The Language of the Heart” by Jason M. reflects on connection as the foundation of recovery, describing how shared experience, simple phrases, and human moments create belonging and carry meaning beyond words.

“From Resolutions to Readiness” by Stephan P. explores Step Six through the lens of the New Year, shifting the focus from self-driven change to spiritual willingness. The piece reflects on the limits of willpower and the role of the Steps and sponsorship in preparing for real transformation.

Service remains a strong theme throughout the issue, with opportunities highlighted for the Telephone Answering Service and other Intergroup roles.

Upcoming events include the Ottawa Spring Conference, with the theme “Together We Grow,” inviting members to deepen connection, fellowship, and spiritual growth in the year ahead.
