Our Primary Purpose

February 2024

Highlights from the February 2024 Issue:

The February issue centres on Step Two and the theme of coming to believe, with a focus on love, tolerance, and the development of faith in a power greater than oneself. The message emphasizes a gradual shift from self-reliance toward trust and spiritual openness.

“Recovery Through Gratitude” by Bonnie D. explores gratitude as a daily practice that supports sobriety. The piece reflects on using simple gratitude lists as a grounding tool, particularly during difficult periods, and describes how this practice can transform perspective and strengthen emotional resilience.

“Finding Sanity” by Catherine B. examines the deeper meaning of being restored to sanity, sharing a personal journey through anxiety, fear, and early recovery. The article reframes sanity not as something regained, but as something discovered for the first time through working the Steps and developing a relationship with a Higher Power.

An update from the Telephone Answering Service highlights the importance of this frontline service, noting the need for more volunteers and outlining how members can get involved. It reinforces the role of service in supporting both newcomers and the wider fellowship.

From the archives, the history of the Freedom Group provides a detailed look at its evolution, including its origins within the Royal Ottawa Hospital, growth over time, challenges with attendance, and adaptation through COVID with online and hybrid meetings. The piece reflects the resilience of A.A. groups and their ability to adapt while maintaining their primary purpose.

The issue also includes a reflective poem, “Do Not Wait” by Lilly W., encouraging personal responsibility, presence, and self-acceptance in recovery.

Additional announcements highlight meetings, anniversaries, and upcoming regional events, continuing to encourage participation, service, and connection within the A.A. community.
